Faustina Junior. Æ "Sestertius"
"PADUAN" after Giovanni Cavino. 1500-1570. Faustina Junior. Æ "Sestertius" (35mm, 29.06 g). Draped bust right / Horse springing left. For obverse: Klawans, p. 90, 2; Lawrence 59; for reverse: Welter 1969; Davenport 397. VF, red-brown patina, reverse filed.
The reverse is an off-metal strike of a 2/3 Taler of Ernst-August of Brunswick-Calenberg-Hannover, 1679-1698.

Italy. c. 1540. Medal (Bronze, 39mm, 41.87 g 7), a contemporary cast example by G. Cavino (but often attributed to a Paduan medalist, HB). Bearded bust of Hercules to right, wearing ivy wreath and with lion’s skin knotted around his neck. Rev. On the right, Hercules standing left in classical armor, being presented with the skin of Nessus by Lichas, wearing armor and advancing to the right; in exergue, mongram of HB and eagle with spread wings. Attwood 298. Kress 411 = NG 468. A splendid contemporary cast, with an obverse in high relief. Attractive dark brown patina. Good very fine.

Rev. .P.M.TR.P.X IMP VI.COS.II.P.P. / SALVS Salus seated on a throne to left, feeding a snake from a patera held in her right hand; to left, statue of Bacchus right on pillar and vine, around which the snake is entwined.

Draped bust of the youthful Faustina II to right, her hair bound with pearls and rolled up into a bun at the top of her head. Rev. Six Vestal Virgins, draped and standing three to either side of a round temple of Vesta with a statue visible within, sacrificing over a burning altar; to the right, togate child standing left, next to one of the Virgins; in exergue, S C .

Гальба просто убил-вот это настоящее породистое лицо римского нобиля (как я его представляю! ). Особенно заметна разница с изображениями безвольного инфатильного хлюрика, который заявлен как "Юлий Цезарь".

AE Paduan sestertius size medallion
